On Christmas Eve a sumptuous Christmas table has been laid out in the vicarage for the vicar and his guests, Puck and Einar Bure and Professor Ekstedt. A woman knocks on the vicar's door, concerned that her husband is missing. He is soon found murdered in his own country store.
